Case of the week ~ Complex Pelvi-Acetabular Reconstructive Surgery
It gives immense pleasure to me when invited to perform complex pelvic ring reconstruction surgery. A middle age gentleman met an accident sustained pelvis and Acetabular fractures 25 days ago. He was admitted in sonipat government set up and was under conservative management since the day of injury. After 25 days he came for management of Pelvi-Acetabular fractures. His xray showed right sided ACPHT type acetabular fracture and left sided SI joint disruption with posterior column fracture and medialized bipolar prosthesis (Done 5yrs back). I tried to reconstruct the right sided acetabular fracture and left sided si joint with as much reduction as possible to save his right hip joint. Will plan for conversion of left sided bipolar to THR if needed in future. In bed mobilization has been started. Patient has become painfree now. These complex trauma cases require meticulous planning and fixation as early as possible for optimal results.
