The shoulder joint is the most mobile joint in the body. It can rotate in many directions, but this advantage makes the shoulder an easy joint to dislocate.
Partial dislocation (subluxation) means that the head of the upper arm bone (humerus) is partially protruding from the socket (glenoid). A complete dislocation means that it is completely out of the socket. Both partial and complete dislocations cause pain and imbalance in the shoulder.
