Total knee replacement surgery is a procedure done for end-stage arthritis. Our knee joint has a protective covering known as cartilage. With age, aggressive sports activities for a long duration,  repetitive trauma, injuries may lead to damage to the cartilage. Once the cartilage eroded it becomes painful and undergoes bony deformities. Initially, these changes can be treated with medicines and injections and some other surgeries like alignment correction. But end-stage advanced arthritis needs a knee replacement. In a knee replacement, we removed the damaged portion of the bone and replaced it with an artificial joint for smooth and pain-free movements. Prosthesis lasts for 20 years and even more due to advancements in technology and instrumentation.
